Why we’re crushing: Not only is Christina an insanely talented baker/cake decorator/artist with a MASSIVE Instagram following (183k followers), but she also has a heart of (edible) 24k gold.



I’m OBSESSED with your creations (seriously fangirling right now)! How do you come up with what to make?
Thank you! I draw inspiration from fashion, furniture, floral designs/patterns, and cake trends. Sometimes music sparks ideas, too!

What’s your therapy (aka what do you do to unwind)?
Meditating, listening to music (shoutout to my favorite, City and Colour), playing with my dog, and decorating with royal icing (it's really relaxing)!

For cake decorating newbies (like me!), what’s the best way to get started?
First, find which medium or sweet treat you want to begin with (or which you're the most passionate about), and look for video tutorials. There are so many available (and free) ones! Then, practice, practice, practice!

You can also ask some people in the cake decorating world for tips. It's a great community; many are generous with their knowledge and are willing to help newbies!

What’s always in your fridge/pantry?
Peanut butter and almond flour

Any baking fails that make for a good story?
Macarons failed me many times before I had success with them! I could never get the right temperature and finally realized I needed an oven thermometer for accuracy. I recommend it; it has saved me!

What would be the title of your autobiography?
Silent Blossoms

Who is your WCW?
Wonderwoman on the regular. For cake decorating, there are so many I admire, but I would have to say Leslea Matsis (@lesleamatsiscakes). Since I began cake art, I've been in awe of her whimsical and delicate designs. Her work is flawlessly executed, and she is a constant inspiration!

 

Do you have a favorite creation?
My all time favorite is a two-tiered fondant cake inspired by a backdrop at the Philadelphia ballet. I made the bottom tier with black smeared vertical lines (like the backdrop) and a floral crown for the top tier (like the elegant dancers' costumes). With fashion, I love pairing an edgy look with something feminine, so this speaks to my personal style. It also reminds me that you can find beauty in the darkness or "messy" things, so to speak.

What would you say to your 16-year-old self?
To keep practicing guitar, take voice lessons, and maybe don't go to that concert the night before SATs.

Recipe: Christina's Rose Bliss Pops

1 carton strawberries
2 tbsp Bliss Butter
1 tsp raw honey
rose petals and chocolate to garnish

Blend ingredients until smooth. Pour into pop molds, and freeze for a few hours. Drizzle with chocolate.
